Eastside Happenings—August 2019

August in the Pacific Northwest is hard to beat, and those of us who live here do not take it for granted! Summer is when the city really shines. Sunshine and warm temperatures roll in contradicting the gray reputation, making for beautiful views and gorgeous days perfect for exploring. Here are some August events to ensure a month of summer fun!

Water Latern Festival- August 10

Kirkland

Connect with family and friends at the most beautiful event of the year, the 1000 Lights Water Lantern Festival. Enjoy thousands of water lanterns at gently floating on the water to create a spectacle at this one night only event. Enjoy carefully curated live musicians, food trucks, and the best festival atmosphere in the nation.

Waterfront Car Show- August 11

Kirkland

Kirkland Classic Car Show features hundreds of beautiful cars will be on display. Live Music, food and fun for the whole family, stroll down the streets in Downtown Kirkland off the shores of Lake Washington while looking at beautiful cars on a perfect sunny day. Awards ceremony at 3pm.

Kirkland Summer Concerts- August 13

This awesome concert series, held right at Kirkland’s Juanita Beach Park, will feature the best kindie bands in town (think: Caspar Babypants, Recess Monkey, The Not-Its!). In addition to kiddie shows, all ages evening shows will take place on Thursday evenings starting on July 5 at Marina Park. Bring the sand buckets and water shoes…these rockin’ concerts are at the beach!

Kite Festival- August 19-25

Long Beach

Watch kite fliers compete at the Washington State International Kite Festival (or fly your own) in Long Beach on the windy Pacific Coast. Fireworks are Friday at 9:45 p.m. The nearby kite museum has an admission fee. Washington’s Kite Festival draws famous kite fliers from all around the world, and tens of thousands awed spectators, many of which participate in the fun with their own kite flying adventures.

Wednesday Markets- August 21, 28

Kirkland

The Kirkland Wednesday Market is a Kirkland farmers market that features many local farmers, artists, artisans and local food producers. It attracts a crowd of around 600 to 800 people and 40 to 60 small businesses at Marina Park in Kirkland each market day. This is a community event that promotes Washington State agriculture and sustainable living.

Market hours are from 2 to 7 pm on Wednesdays from June through September.

Lionel Richie Concert- August 20

An evening with Lionel Richie at Marymoor Park! Whether it is your first or your 100th time coming to the Fair, it promises to be magical. We believe the Fair is a place for everyone!
